Ingibjörg Jara, born in Reykjavík in 1984, is a visual artist who focuses on performative spaces.
She earned her master's degree in scenography from Universität der Künste in Berlin under the guidance of Prof. Hartmut Meyer. Ingibjörg has created scenography and costumes for renowned platforms such as Schaubühne, Maxim Gorki Theater, and Sophiensäle in Berlin; WLB Stuttgart-Esslingen; Opera Zuid in Maastricht; Iceland Symphony Orchestra; and Reykjavik City Theater. In addition, she served as an associate scenographer at the Berliner Ensemble, Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Deutsche Oper Berlin, and The Royal Theater in Copenhagen.
Ingibjörg's theater experience has expanded into designing exhibitions. In collaboration with Visionis Reykjavík, she has designed exhibitions for the Icelandic Museum of Natural History, the Reykjavik City Museum, the Icelandic Museum of Design and Applied Art, and the North Atlantic House in Copenhagen. Notably, the exhibition "Water in Icelandic Nature" at the Icelandic Museum of Natural History was nominated for the European Museum of the Year Award in 2022.
Ingibjörg is currently based out of Reykjavik.
